Being Fit Can Improve your Love Life…Yes, Yes, Yes!

Picture 4Does being fit mean you’ll have a better sex life? Some think so. Our ultimate goal is to motivate you to become healthier, happier and more physically fit. So think about this: If you knew your love life would be much improved, would you be more inclined to get your “fluffy” self to the gym? Or to eat a healthier diet? Maybe even take a few “good for your sex life” supplements? Your answer should be yes, yes … yes!

Here are six “Better Sex Tips” that might improve the big “O” and more:

*Eating a diet rich in veggies, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts (walnuts are best) and olive oil is conducive to improving sexual function, including orgasms in both men and women. In dual two-year studies, men and women who reportedly had some sort of sexual dysfunction experienced great improvement in the sexual arena while eating Mediterranean style diets on a regular basis.
*Physically active men under the age of 50 have a 30 percent lower risk of impotence than men who are sedentary. Keeping the “machinery” in working order is one very fab reason for men to exercise.
* Lift weights to elevate sex drive. Raising testosterone levels with weightlifting can increase sex drive in both men and women. Specifically, men who engage in multi-joint exercises, such as squats and bench presses, and do so for up to 45 to 60 minutes at a time, can increase their testosterone levels by up to 40 percent in one session. Women need to train harder and longer to get the equivalent results but the bottom line is this: If you lift, your testosterone will go up. Higher levels of testosterone will result in frequent erections, sexual urges and increased sexual fitness for men and heightened sex drive, mood and muscle and bone density for women.
* Be fit and improve your sex life. There is a relationship between feeling good about yourself and having better sex. This tidbit was discovered by Michael Young, professor of health science at the University of Arkansas, and one of his doctoral students, Tina Penhollow. They facilitated a study of more than 400 students and concluded that the more physically fit you are, the better you feel your sex life is. Young and Penhollow also found that guys who worked out the most frequently deemed themselves as “sex gods” while women who worked out almost every day ranked themselves lower in the sexual performance arena. They speculate this may be due to lower self-esteem in those women who work out obsessively.

Unfortunately, less research has been conducted on women than on men, which means our male counterparts have an easier way to measure success than we women do. *wink*wink* — women are just a bit more complicated. However, it looks like you can improve the quality of your sex life be eating better and being more active while following these basic rules: Don’t smoke, drink alcohol only in moderation and keep your stress under control.

Starvation Diets Can Cause Deadly Heart Rhythms.

Starvation Dieting is not the way to go.

Starvation Dieting is not the way to go.

Weight loss typically reduces blood pressure, improves blood sugar regulation and blood fats, and enhances metabolic health. Rapid weight loss through starvation diets (less than 800 calories per day) often causes decreases in muscle tone and heart rhythm disturbances. Bulgarian scientists in a study of 29 obese adults on starvation diets, found that 20 of the subjects developed a potentially fatal heart rhythm called “acquired long QT syndrome.” This greatly increases the risk of ventricular fibrillation and sudden death. In the normal heart, impulses travel across the chambers and cause a uniform contraction of the atria and ventricles (upper and lower chambers of the heart). Starvation alters cell health and impairs normal conduction of the impulses. Following starvation diets to lose weight is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. You will be the skinniest corpse in the cemetery.

What’s Your Motivation Personality?

Picture 11There is a totally legit reason you always seem to fall off the work-out wagon: The conventional approach to exercise almost forces you to bail out; the routine, the monotany, not getting results fast enough…you won’t have that problem working out with Tony and his trainers at TN Structure Fitness.
Identifying what drives you is the key to coming up with a plan you’ll stick to. A few simple behavioral tweaks can silence the call of the couch.
Do you work out because…You want to lose weight-but you really hate it? *Get Motivated. Invest in some form-fitting workout clothes. According to researchers at Springrield College in Massachusetts, most new exercisers typically go for baggy clothes. the excess fabric hampers their movement, which can make them feel even worse about themselves. *Avoid fixating on inches lost. The real measure of success should be how you feel after your workouts.
Do you work out because…You want to please your boyfriend? *Get Motivated. Get a personal trainer. If you’re an externally motivated people pleaser by nature, making nice with your trainer will keep you motivated. The Springfield investigators also found that hiding out/training at home where no one can see you prevents you from learning and feeling competent. *Avoid the “boot camp” punishment approach…it’s not positive or empowering.
Do you work out because…It’s part of your identity? Fitness is one of your core values- and besides, you like it. *Get (even more) motivated. Have a go-to home routine prepared by Tony for the days you can’t make it to the gym, or log on to our blog to see the “Workout of the Day”. Even if it’s as simple as running around the block a few times or doing lunges nd squats in your living room. Researchers at the University of Alberta found that even for people who love to exercise, scheduling regular workouts still can be a challenge. Having a plan B will maintain your momentum when your life threatens to derail you. *Avoid Overdoing it. Taking workouts too seriously can take all the fun out of them, and that can lead to a serious motivation 911.

Tony’s Tunes…

Picture 15One of the most crucial parts of getting your work out on is a playlist to move to. At some point or another, you have probably discovered that music can inspire you! Whether you are feeling kind of blue and want to snap out of your funk, needing to get a ton of work done and need something to help you keep up the pace, or need some speed encouragement while out on a run, music is there for you. The theory that music motivates us to exercise harder has been put to the test by Brunel University’s School of Sport and Education researcher Dr. Costas Karageorghis.

Thirty participants worked out on a treadmill while listening to specifically selected tracks based on such factors as beat (120-140 beats per minute) and motivating lyrics. They were instructed to keep pace with the beat as much as possible. At the end of the study, participants increased their endurance by and average of 15%. Dr. Karagorghis says that music motivates us because it has the ability to affect our mood. As a result, if we listen to upbeat music, it will negate some of the pain we experience towards the end of our training session and helps us truly “go the distance.”
When working out with Tony, you will see that anything to help you “go the distance” will be well worth it. Here are some of Tony’s favorite tunes to listen to while sweating it out. (to name a few…)
